the designer
Born in Nancy, France in 1901, Jean Prouvé is hugely acknowledged as one of the 20th century’s most influential designers particularly for his contributions to the development of systems for mass production. During his 60 year practice, he worked as an architect, engineer, designer, craftsman, and even manufacturer and was involved in projects ranging from prefabricated housing, building components and facades, as well as furniture.
He left his mark on architectural history again in 1971, when he played a major role in selecting the design of Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers for the Centre Pompidou as chairman of the competition jury.
