the designer
Michel Ducaroy was born into a family of industrialists and contemporary furniture designers. He trained at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Lyon and joined the Roset Company early in his career, benefiting from the company’s rapid growth and access to a capable technical team. Ducaroy played a crucial role in research, development, and design, contributing significantly to the company’s market position.
Ducaroy designed a wide range of furniture, including pieces for young people, various upholstery models, and contract furniture. With the advent of new materials like foams, quilting, and thermoformed plastics in the 1960s and 1970s, he created numerous innovative pieces for the domestic market, such as Adria, Koufra, Kashima, Safi, and Kali. His most famous creation, the Togo, a ‘seat-cushion,’ remains an iconic part of the Ligne Roset collection today.
