Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) was a Finnish lighting designer whose work helped shape the early language of modern lighting. Born in Helsinki just as electric light was beginning to enter homes, Tynell grew up alongside the technology he would later master.
His designs brought warmth and character to functional light, blending elegance with craftsmanship. By the time of his death, he was affectionately known as the man who illuminated Finland.
