Tobia Scarpa is a Venetian architect and designer known for his timeless contributions to Italian design. Born in 1935, he studied architecture at the University of Venice, where he later collaborated with his wife Afra Bianchin, forming one of Italy’s most celebrated design duos. Scarpa’s work spans furniture, architecture, and exhibition design, blending innovation with a strong respect for craftsmanship and materials.

His most iconic works include the Soriana armchair for Cassina, which won the Compasso d’Oro in 1970, and the Coronado sofa for B&B Italia. He also designed key collections for Maxalto and oversaw architectural projects for Benetton, including their Treviso headquarters and production plants. His designs are held in major international museums, and in 2008, he received the Compasso d’Oro for lifetime achievement.
