Viggo Boesen
designer based in : COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
the designer
Viggo Boesen significantly influenced Denmark’s design aesthetic in the 1930s. His work embodied the Scandinavian ‘Funkis’ style, a Nordic twist on Art Deco. Unlike the Bauhaus emphasis on mass-produced materials and minimalism, Boesen introduced a softer, warmer, and more innocent approach to design, pioneering new forms of upholstered furniture.
While Boesen’s output was limited, his original concepts, organic forms, and expressive design language set the stage for Denmark’s later strides in modernism. Little Petra stands among the few designs by Boesen, showcasing his departure from Bauhaus minimalism with its softer, more abundant, and organic aesthetic, marking a unique chapter in Danish design history.
