Vita was born in 1950 when founder Willi Fehlbaum came across a chair in a New York window display by Charles and Ray Eames. The innovative character of the couple’s creation inspired the modern design movement which became the driving force for Vitra to emerge as a global household name. Since its birth, Vitra has teamed up with the world’s best designers creating some of the most iconic modern furniture.
While the first generation laid the company’s commercial foundations, and the second added a cultural dimension through the development of the Vitra Campus and the Vitra Design Museum with its collection, the third generation puts the spotlight on sustainable thinking and action.
