The Folding Chair debuted at the 1949 Cabinetmakers’ Guild Autumn Exhibition alongside the iconic Round Chair. Its design nods to Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Chair, but Wegner added a folding mechanism for improved stability and crafted it from natural materials—solid wood and cane.
The wooden hand-rests intersect with the cane seat, creating a balanced and understated aesthetic. Practical yet elegant, the chair showcases the simplicity of fine craftsmanship and doubles as a decorative piece when folded and hung on the wall.
