The Smithfield family of lights takes inspiration from a certain metal lamp at London’s Smithfield meat market where Morisson was intrigued by the industrial and functional nature of the fixtures he saw. With his ability to translate beauty into his work, he designed Smithfield where its appearance is shaped by the tradition of everyday life, and its name is an actual physical location in which he pays his tribute.

I’ve always liked the industrial and functional character of these lights. I wanted to make a project out of them, looking for some way of making use of their efficiency in delivering light, and the forms themselves which are so much a part of the good atmosphere of industrial spaces.

Honest practicality has always been a hallmark of Jasper Morrison’s work and this is clearly evident in Smithfield’s design. The lamp provides direct light through its aluminum body while diffusing it using a clear cover shade making Smithfield well suited for a variety of environments and interior settings. Its smooth appearance makes an effortless integration into any space while creating a pool of light that is bright, strong, and balanced.

Smithfield has 2 models, suspended and ceiling lamps. It is available in Matte Black, Mud, White, and Glossy Black; neutral colors that portray the designer’s background in industrial design and present the lamps as a humble and versatile product.

Both models have a 60cm diameter and are 21.5cm high with an option of LED or Halogen sources. The LED versions are available in two color temperatures of 2700K, 3000K, and an optional 3500K.
