There’s a pattern show in town and these tables might just be your superstars. The ceramic top and the wooden legs, the thickness and curves, the colors and forms… There is a personality to each of these pieces that will transform your room.
Kora with Black Rings, Marigold Sun, Radiant Full Moon and Rainbow Prism; these are the names of the side tables. A collaboration with the NYC based designer MQuan; and not for the first time. In fact Lawson-Fenning has a brilliant habit of working with emerging designers and artists, showcasing their work and creating pieces that have lots to say.
There is something special about these table tops. The work of MQuan, as she puts it, is very Eastern-influenced. She takes inspiration from spiritual and esoteric symbols of the East and interprets them in the form of her work. The shapes and patterns on these hand-made ceramic table tops are no different; the choice of color, the blend, and texture are all results of a deeper connection the artist has with spirituality.
Impermanence & interconnection are ideas that I return to often, drawing inspiration from the writings and teachings of Buddhism and it’s extensive visual language. I understand the meanings to be universal and independent of religious attachments.
quote from mquan.com
The base of these tables is in a form of a cross made from solid white oak designed by Lawson-Fenning. Its clearly designed to put the ceramic in the spotlight, so its not a surprise if you don’t see it at first glance. Its perhaps a fitting compliment to the meaningful thick ceramic it carries.
