Kazu Oba is the man behind O’baware. Born in Kobe, Japan, he spent the majority of his younger years in the land of the rising sun until he moved to Colorado in the ’90s. Having apprenticed under great pottery and ceramic masters, he then found his own practice alongside his wife Yaku, and daughter Maya.

His pottery is often described as functional art; delicately detailed ceramic pieces to celebrate the act of eating. His particular focus on designing tableware is due to his background as a chef, as he constantly explores the relationship between his pottery and the food being served.
