Arne Jacobsen is a Danish architect from Copenhagen born in 1902. He initially trained as a mason before studying architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts, graduating in 1927. He then joined the architectural office of Paul Holsoe until 1930 when he established his own design office.

For most of the twentieth century, Arne Jacobsen’s designs were the face of Danish design influencing architecture and interior design around the world. The “Ant” from 1952 was the starting point of his international recognition as a furniture designer which became the first of a number of chairs with a single piece of molded wood as the seat and backrest.

Jacobsen’s creative process centered on his strict consideration of detail. He brought his visions to life for patrons and builders with scrupulous, hand-painted watercolors. In any given year, Jacobsen managed to design what others might be happy to produce in five.
